Okay, it's been like a month since I have posted anything, and I am SORRY! Sometimes I get too busy having a life to write about it. :)
So...Kat and I have been selling cookies. We spent a very cold Saturday sitting in a cookie booth with the wind blowing the whole time...it was miserable. and people just don't want cookies this year. Kat sold about 1/2 of what she did last year. She has no enthusiasm for selling after so many people have said no. And I am SO SICK OF SELLING FREAKIN GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!!!!! And we were supposed to be done but our troop has gotten stuck with many cases of leftover/unsold cookies and I got talked into taking just one more case home. If it was carmel de-lites I would probably just buy it. I may anyways and just give them away. Last year we were able to pick up cookies as we needed them but this year there was all this guessing and preordering and we ended up with more than we needed. And it sounds like a lot of troops did. So anyways. If anyone needs any cookies, contact me and I will get them to you. Stupid cookies.
I draw pictures on Katherine's lunch bag every day.
She saves them.
I bought a dawn doll on ebay. I love ebay. You can find and repurchase all the toys you had when you were a kid. Next I am going to buy her pink corvette. Or a VW van, If I can find one to scale.
Me and the kids went to visit my parents during Spring break. On the way up we saw a big grass fire with lots of black smoke. I don't know if it was a "fire" or if they were just burning their fields but the kids thought it was pretty exciting. Then they fell asleep and I didn't have to stop as much as I usually do. While we were there we went to the Exploration Place in Wichita KS - the kids really like it there because of the three story castle there. They have dress up clothes and props and it's just really neat. So me and my parents just kinda hung out for several hours while they ran amok with the others kids.
We also went to the Scrapbook Garden, located in Wichita, KS. It was a pretty amazing scrapbook store - even bigger than Scrapbook n Such. I felt slightly disloyal until I saw the aisle of Basic Grey products. I love Basic Grey! So awesome!
My family wasn't as enthusiastic about stopping here - in fact they wanted to leave after the first row of product. Sigh. I'd like to go back and spend a few hours - maybe even take a class. They had a very friendly and helpful staff and an amazing selection of products. I know I'll be back!
We had a nice visit with my parents and were traveling home on the Kansas Turnpike. At one of the toll booths there was a huge line, maybe 40 cars waiting and only one lane open besides the KTAG lane. I pulled in with a sigh. After being almost parked for several minutes, I noticed that some cars were pulling out into the KTAG lane, and then trying to cut in the line closer to the front. I was thinking how dangerous that was, pulling out into a lane where the traffic was moving at 70 mph from a dead stop when I heard the crash and watched a white car spinning towards us, crashing back and forth between the cars. It was a very "oh shit" moment, realizing that there was no escape with a concrete barrier to my left, a car ahead and behind and the wildly spinning car. It hit the black car behind us, bounced off and slid to a stop. The kids went nuts. People started getting out of their cars and running around on the highway, some cars from behind the accident started trying to drive between the damaged cars. The toll booth opened up another lane and I pulled into it and Kat started taking pictures out the back window.
We were right in front of that black car that you can see 1/2 of on the far right. The white car on the far right was knocked off the road by the other white car that is kind of in the middle. It was hit by the big truck when it pulled out in front of it. I gave my kids a talk about being patient and how you can get hurt by being in a hurry. They thought the accident was the best part of the trip. Sigh. I was glad to get home safe.
Katherine finally decided to get her ears pierced. I had wanted to do them when she was a baby but didn't feel like I really had the right to decide to put holes in her body, that it should be her decision. And while she wanted earring for some time, she hadn't quite summoned the courage to get them done. In typical Kat fashion, once she had decided she was ready, she was quite impatient to get them done. So we did.
Last weekend I was at my friend Tamy's house. We are working on becoming inner circle friends. Which probably seems weird, but there is a difference between friends that you just see at work or that you are in a club with or church with and people that you call and make plans with . I think it takes getting together and telling your secrets and stories to get to that inner circle. There are some people that you just click with that get a sort of direct path there (like my friend Sharry) but most take some relationship building. Some people never get there, no matter how much time you spend together. I define these people as the people you can be your absolute true self with, the ones that "get" you, the ones that you don't have to explain yourself to. They see you as your best self and only mentally hold on to the best parts of you. A person is fortunate to have one such friend. I have been blessed with many, some who have been my friends for a long time, some that wander in and out of my life, some that I knew only briefly before they went away for one reason or another. But anyhow, my point, I guess, was that I don't really have an inner circle friend that lives here at this moment and I miss having that kind of relationship. So Tamy and I are hanging out more, seeing if that works. Anyhow. I was at her house and our children were playing together and they decided to pretend that my car was a time machine and they played with all the switches and buttons and left enough stuff on to drain the battery to the point that we were not able to jump start it. So her husband charged the battery but when I was able to bring my car home the power steering no longer worked. I felt very clever in that I figured out what was wrong with my car and changed the fuse myself.
More later! I gotta go watch LOST!!!! :)
